"Hold My Heart, Triune God"
By Kristen
Hold my heart, triune God; for, You
Have shown grace to those who through You came
From sorrow and shame to stand on Your name.
How great is this? to be made new;
What mercy does this compare to?
I, a sinner, You claim,
That Your work I might proclaim;
For to You all glory is due.
Take me, hold me in your hand;
Don’t let my heart be snatched away,
But, instead, fill it with joy to stay.
Even when I do not understand what You have planned,
Give me faith to persevere ‘til the day You appear;
And hold my heart, triune God; draw me near.
Have shown grace to those who through You came
From sorrow and shame to stand on Your name.
How great is this? to be made new;
What mercy does this compare to?
I, a sinner, You claim,
That Your work I might proclaim;
For to You all glory is due.
Take me, hold me in your hand;
Don’t let my heart be snatched away,
But, instead, fill it with joy to stay.
Even when I do not understand what You have planned,
Give me faith to persevere ‘til the day You appear;
And hold my heart, triune God; draw me near.

Wow, what a great poem! You are much better at poetry than I am. :) I love it...I think I shall copy it and put it in my room somewhere. It makes a wonderful prayer!
Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Thanks, Allison! This was an assignment for my English class last semester. We had to copy the style of John Donne and write a poem in sonnet form. I am so glad that you enjoyed it!
Poetry... that's something we haven't studied much of in school. :) We realized that when we looked at the poetry on some of the CLEP tests...
That was a wonderful Poem Kristen!! I'm glad you came to be part of our (slow moving) blog!
